Aviation expert lauds security measures at nation’s airports

Recent security measures at the nation”s airports are appropriate and meet International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) standards, an aviation expert, Mr Olumide Ohunayo, has said .

Ohunayo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ikeja on Sunday that the measures by Nigeria and other ICAO member-states were in line with international regulations. He said that the standards were aimed at ensuring that the global aviation network remained well protected.

Ohunayo, a former President of the Cabin Crew Association of Nigeria (CCAN), said that the security requirements would facilitate a globally harmonised response to terrorism.

According to him, ICAO policy provides the required mechanisms to ensure that responses to security threats are carried out with the greatest possible degree of harmonisation worldwide.

“A comprehensive, multi-layered security system provides the most appropriate response to potential terrorist actions directed at civil aviation,” he said.

He assured that the policy by the international regulatory authority in the air transport sector would sustain safety in the nation”s airspace. He noted that such policy had helped Nigeria to attain high international safety standard.
