Abuja-THE Nigeria Army raised the alarm yesterday over what it called attempts by vested interest groups on the Jos crisis to portray it as a body which perpetrated extra-judicial killings with a view to supporting a particular group during the crisis, saying such accusations were an embarrassment to it.
In a statement titled, ‘Video clip alleging Nigerian soldiers killed civilians in Jos’, signed by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig-General Chris Olukolade, the Army said the plot behind the release of the video clips “which is clearly a scientific fabricationâ€, was to whip up religious and ethnic sentiments with a view to setting the nation ablaze.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a video clip posted on a news web site and put into circulation via cell phones, projecting a scene where Nigerian soldiers were purportedly shooting innocent civilians during the recent civil unrest in Jos, Plateau State .
