AWKA—ACTION Congress, AC, Governorship candidate in Anambra State, Dr. Chris Ngige has described last Saturday’s election, which Governor Peter Obi emerged as winner as a sham and called for its outright cancellation.
Ngige, who addressed newsmen in Awka yesterday said that the minority elected the Governor, while the majority stood and watched helplessly, pointing that 85 percent of the disenfranchised voters in the state were AC supporters.
Saying that Saturday’s election was “voodoo and a shame,†Ngige said the outcome of the election was completely unacceptable and should not be allowed to stand.
According to him, the voters’ register used for the conduct of the election was flawed because of what he described as deliberate disenfranchisement of voters, who could not find their names in the voters’ register.
He accused Governor Obi of conspiring with some INEC officials to doctor the register with a view to giving him an edge in the election, adding that he could not understand why Obi, who had during the election acknowledged the flaws in the register, should turn around to hail the outcome of the exercise.
“Out of the total 1.8 million registered voters in Anambra State, less than 10 percent found their names and were thus allowed to vote.
The others holding valid voter cards, whose names were purged were disenfranchised. And they number over 90 percent. This list includes my 98 year old father, Dr. Alex Ekwueme and host of prominent and lowly placed Ndi Anamabra.
