After leading Nigeria to a bronze at the Angola 2010 Nations Cup, coach Shuaibu Amodu padded by his ‘bragging rights’ has told off critics who want him of the Eagles job.
Amodu said that his employers the Nigeria Football Federation are satisfied with his work with the Eagles at the tournament and therefore he was hopeful of taking the Eagles to the SA 2010 World Cup.
“I have never been bothered about speculation about my future because they are just speculation,” he said
“My employers are satisfied with my work.”
Amodu said that his team did not hit the right button in the tournament and that was why it seem Nigeria was struggling, but according to Amodu by winning bronze the Eagles have done well and they deserve the commendation of all Nigerians.
“We have done well enough even though we may not have played to our full potential, but with longer preparations we can do a lot better,” he added.
” We improved with each game, we were not at our best in Angola but we can be better before the World Cup.”
The Eagles manage a 1-0 win of a dispirited Algeria side in the losers final. Ghana parading youngsters from the Under-20 sacked the Eagles in the semi-final with a 1-0 win.
However, reaching the semi-final and winning bronze was an improvement from the last tournament in Ghana 2008 where Nigeria was dismissed in the quarterfinal by a 10-man Ghanaian Black Stars team, which came from behind to win the game at 2-1.
