BENIN—THE Chairman of the sole Commission of inquiry set up to investigate last week’s clash between soldiers and mobile policemen in Benin City, Edo State, Justice Rowland Amaize, yesterday reacted to the story published in Vanguard, Monday, which erroneously described him as a retired High Court judge.
The erudite judge and authorities of the state High Court declared that he is still a serving High Court Judge and that the publication that he had retired was misleading. Vanguard investigation also confirmed that Justice Amaize is still a serving High Court Judge.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole had last week set up the commission to investigate the cause of the clash which led to the death of two soldiers and several others wounded including some police personnel.
Justice Amaize, who is one of the most disciplined judges in the state High Court, had at the occasion assured the Governor that the commission would get to the root of the matter, just as he expressed his appreciation to the Governor for the appointment.
The commission was given 14 days to submit its report.
