The Lagos State Police Command Thursday, re-instated its call to robbers to either turn a new leaf or vacate the state for good, threatening to make Lagos unbearable for them.
The command’s boss, Mr Marvel Akpoyibo, made this call while briefing the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Zone II, Mr Azubuko Udah, of the command’s achievements, during the AIG Udah’s visit to some of the command’s formations.
Akpoybo who said the peculiarity of Lagos had placed enormous security challenges at the command’s door steps, re-assured the AIG that the current tempo in crime fighting would be sustained.
Acknowledging the state government for its assistance which he attributed to the feat in crime busting, he said so far, the command could now boast of 20 Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs, 845 patrol vehicles, 8,730 riffles, 1,039 bullet proof vests, 472 riot equipment, five gun boats and two helicopters.
With these equipment on ground, he said: “Without being immodest, the command can beat its chest and assert that it is on top of crime in the state.
He, however, noted that there were still areas of challenges, one of which is acute accommodation shortage for men and officers of the command of which he is not spared.
Said he: “The Commissioner of Police stayed in two different rented quarters before the immediate past Inspector-General of Police allocated a quarter to him at Club Road, Ikoyi but it later turned out to have been sold by the presidential committee.â€
