UYO—Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Ignatius Edet, has got yet another boost to his third term ambition as he received the endorsement of youths of his constituency, acting under the umbrella of Ibiono Ibom Youth Council.
The speaker had earlier been endorsed by the ward executives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in all the 11 wards of Ibiono Ibom, the traditional institution, and Ibiono Ibom branch of Akwa Ibom Professional Commercial Motorcyclists Association (APCOMA).
The youths, drawn from almost all the registered youth organizations at Ibiono Ibom and led by Ibiono Ibom Youth Council, the apex youth body in the area, endorsed the speaker and Governor Godswill Akpabio for re-election during a youth rally at the local government headquarters, Oko Ita.
Chairman of the Youth Council, Mr Anthony Etim, who tagged the endorsement, “the Oko Ita Declaration 2010â€, explained that the youths were backing the speaker for attracting various state government development projects to Ibiono Ibom, especially the construction of the long-neglected Nung Udoe Itak-Oko Ita-Use Ikot Amama road and electrification of all the villages in Ibiono Ibom.
He recalled Obong Edet’s pioneering role in the youth struggle as the first chairman of both Akwa Ibom State Youth Council and Ibiono Ibom Youth Council and described him as a shinning star who had not disappointed the youths in his present position.
Etim said the youths had also resolved to support Governor Akpabio for a second term because of his massive infrastructural and human development of the area.
