2011:Oba Akiolu of Lagos tips Fashola for second term

By Olasunkanmi AKONI
Oba Rilwanu Akiolu of Lagos has said that the incumbent Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State would be given a second term under Action Congress (AC) in Lagos like his immediate predecessor and godfather, Senator Bola Tinubu.

The assurance came following the ongoing alleged rift between Fashola and Tinubu as well as impeachment move by the Lagos State House of Assembly over financial recklessness.

In his remark on Tuesday at the official handing over of the rehabilitated City Hall that was gutted by mysterious fire in 1998 but awarded for rehabilitation in March 2007, Oba Akiolu said, “I am saying it publicly now that Tinubu spent complete eight years, Fashola too would spend eight years.”

Akiolu, was said to have convened a truce meeting between the duo last weekend, where many issues were discussed.

Akiolu’s statements on the second term for Fashola, elicited loud ovation from the crowd while the white cap chiefs in attendance acknowledged the monarch’s speech with a standing ovation.

While cautioning the media for exaggerating the alleged face_off, the monarch blamed the constant faceoff between politicians, especially Tinubu and Fashola on what he called unnecessary media hype, saying, “Pen is mightier than the sword; Journalists should be aware because you are the ones peddling the rumour between them.”

Also speaking, Tinubu who had earlier addressed the media at his Bourdillon residence in Ikoyi, described himself as a good father and an experienced politician, who will not watch his children go astray.

His words: “I am a good father; I have an experience; Fashola is threading the same path I once threaded, it is only a bad father that will wait until his son gets bruises before correcting him.

“I will not open my eyes and see where Fashola is going astray and refuse to call him to order,” he said, asking the crowd to confirm his political godfatherism, “am I not a good father?” this was greeted with the shout, “You are a good father,” by the crowd.
