2010 World Cup:Amodu loses on all fronts

By Tony Ubani
EAGLES Coach, Amodu Shuaibu may have finally lost his chances of even accompanying the Eagles to the World Cup in South Africa in June.

Sports Vanguard can reveal that officials of the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, agreed before departing Angola to support the Presidential Task Force in hiring a foreign coach for the Eagles after poor tactics coupled with lack of fitness exposed the coach and his boys during the Orange African Cup of Nations.

We could not have come out in the Press to say that we won’t support him or to say that he will not lead us to the World Cup. That will be suicidal as he can lead us astray in the Nations Cup”, one of the most powerful members of the NFF said. “We have satisfied ourselves and Amodu should hail us for standing by him.

But the world cup is a different cup of tea and we have decided to make an impact and not just to participate”, the source said as a matter of fact. But Sports Vanguard gathered that the volte-face of the football house has to do with the pressure of the PTF that threatened to ‘sack’ the board for disparaging and ridiculing a Task Force set up by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Image Maker of NFF, Ademola Olajire had to write rejoinders withdrawing statements the NFF made earlier saying that the PTF was a distraction in Angola and an aberration. “The PTF have put their foot down and the NFF are shivering”, a reliable source said.

“There was an understanding that Amodu will go to South Africa as compensation for his qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup. All that has been jettisoned as the PTF insists the new coach will appoint his assistants. That means that Amodu and his technical assistants will have no role to play in South Africa”. The PTF we gathered have also agreed to pay off Amodu for the remaining months in his contract.
