AS the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, continues to chase shadows over the appointment of a coach for the Eagles, one of the players has predicted doom for the team in South Africa. Hull city midfielder, Seyi Olofinjana said that the delay in appointing a coach and settling down to the business of the World cup portends a bad omen for the country.
“It’s annoying that while other countries are putting finishing touches on their preparations for the World Cup we are still short-listing candidates to take over as coach. It is not encouraging that we have not started preparations. The World Cup is a long time thing. That is why all Nations put everything into qualifying. And once they qualify, they also more work to see that they do well in the World Cup.
I don’t think we should be talking of doing well when we don’t have a direction or plan for the World Cupâ€. The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, is still bizarrely dropping names of coaches who are gainfully employed as part of their short-lists while most of the coaches have also spoken harshly against the practice. Russian coach Guus Hiddink, Bayern Manager, Van Gaal, Djukovic have all opted out of the Nigerian job saying that they were never contacted.
