CAN we know you sir and also tell us what this project is all about?
I’m Dr. Chidi Chukwueke, chairman of Deep Offshore Community Affairs Group (DOCAG) which is made up of eleven offshore oil companies in Nigeria. The essence of this project initiative is to basically impact lives at the grass root level in the area of medical scheme.
We found out that so many people in the rural areas cannot afford to transport themselves to the urban cities for medical treatment, so what we brought to the people of Mbano, Imo State is an holistic approach to quality and comprehensive medical treatment from specialists – Dentists, Surgeons, Opthamologists, Pediatricians, Pharmacists etc. to give them the best of medical care to all kinds of illnesses. The specialists will all be working together to achieve desired results. We are able to take care of two to five thousand patients a week and reach out to quite a number of people.
What number of doctors are you working with on this healthcare project?
On this project we have close to sixty-two medical doctors that are working with us and we have twelve logistical staff from the local hospital. In all, they are about eighty-five.
What is the role of DOCAG?
The role of DOCAG is deeply much. It, basically, makes sure the necessary medications are procured and mobilized. Even the doctors are working as volunteers- free of charge mobilizing them from their various locations, nationally and internationally. DOCAG organises the project location, accommodation, feeding, producing of drug and maintenance.
