Utaka eyes World Cup slot, moves to France

By Ben Efe
Out of favour Eagles attacker, John Utaka, said that he is anxious to move to France and play regular football in order to win a place in Nigeria’s team to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Utaka disclosed that he is already in talks with Sochaux with a view of signing a six months deal.

“If they (Sochaux) can give me playing time, I will be on the next plane over because I really need that.

“I am not playing at Portsmouth and there is a World Cup coming up in June — I don’t want to miss that,” Utaka told skysports.com.

After missing the party to the Angola 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, Utaka admitted that missing the World Cup was something he cannot imagine, hence his desperation to play regular football and get attention of the coaches.

Utaka has not been able to find his range at Portsmouth since making a 7 million pounds move to join compatriot Nwankwo Kanu. Portsmouth are currently facing a financial crisis and are in danger of being relegated.

“Hopefully everything will be sorted out quickly so I can focus on my football.”
