LAGOS — Thirteen former employees of the Conoil Producing Ltd, Belbob Nig. Ltd. and Continental Oil Ltd. led by Mrs Olayinka Bello, who were sacked by their employers, have entered into an agreement with their employers to settle the matter out of court.
The applicants have dragged the organisations before the National Industrial Court, Lagos over unlawful disengagement.
The out-of-court settlement was sequel to the agreement reached by parties to the suit following the claim by the respondent companies that the suit had already taken negative effects on the activities of the companies.
The President of the court, Justice Babatunde Adejumo, leading other two Justices E.B. Kanyip and O.A. Obaseki-Usaghae, then adjourned the matter to Monday, January 25, 2010 in Abuja.
Delivering his short ruling, Justice Adejumo held: “The parties have shown interest and readiness to resolve the matter through sincere dialogue. In view of this, the court has agreed that the matter be adjourned till 25th of January, 2010 in Abuja for report of settlement. The case is therefore adjourned till 25th of January, 2010 at 1pm.â€
It would be recalled that the applicants had filed a suit over unlawful disengagement from their employment with the companies, having served for a number of years.
