Decided to leave the scene with the loudest ovation possible, Mr Michael Ugochukwu Stephens a k a Ruggedman, has embarked on string of premieres to test-the-waters for his last album.
On Wednesday in Lagos, the rapper was on Top Radio FM to premiere five new songs which have potentials of making his coming album. Later in the evening, he was live on Star FM playing same five songs and an additional one.
The aim, according to the rapper, is to get peoples’ opinion on the songs. The feedback, will determine if a song makes it into his yet-to-be- titled bow-out album. On why he’s towing this lane, he said, “When I’m on stage, I get feedback directly from my audience. So, I thought to myself, ‘why wait for feedback after a song has been already released? Why not get people’s opinion before putting out a song on radio?â€
The six tracks sampled are, ‘She and my swagger’ featuring Ice Prince and produced by So Sick, ‘Whatever’ featuring Tyrone, ‘Emi ni’ (It’s me) featuring Da Grin, ‘Sanwo’ ft Gino, ‘Superman’ ft. Lil Jojo and Gino and an untitled track produced by Cash 11 featuring YQ.
The votes on the tracks will determine which songs get promoted eventually. It’s more like “I’m not recording my album. We are (together with his fans)â€, he said on radio.
If this rapper’s fans respond objectively and en-masse to this premiere strategy, and resultantly he (Ruggedman) releases a well-accepted album, the premiere lane just might become popular among artistes, hence reducing the volume of low-quality albums released in the country.
