ABUJAâ€”The House of RepresentativesÂ yesterday confirmed receipt of 2009 supplementary budget which was signed by President Umaru Yarâ€™Adua in his hospital bed in Saudi Arabia.
A statement by the Special Adviser, Media, to the Speaker, Mr. Ebomhiana Musa, said the Presidency transmitted the document to the House through the Clerk to the National Assembly on Tuesday.
He said: â€œThis is to confirm that the Presidency transmitted to the Clerk of the National Assembly a copy of the 2009 supplementary appropriation as signed by Mr. President.Â It was received on Tuesday.”
The reaction of the House of Representatives came against the backdrop of conflicting reports about the signing into law of the budget by the president on his sick bed in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, has assured that the House will continue to carry out its oversight responsibilities on the 2009 budget through its various committees.Bankole, who spoke in an interview at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA2), Ikeja, Lagos, said the various committees of the House were still busy preparing their reports, adding that the position of the House on the performance of the budget would be made known as soon as the reports were ready.
â€œThe committees are still asking questions on the performance of ministries, departments and agencies, until that is completed, I cannot make any official comments on the performance of the budget,” he said.
