GOVERNORSHIP candidate of Action Congress (AC) in the February 6 election in Anambra State , Dr. Chris Ngige said yesterday in Awka that he would adopt the baby boy delivered during his campaign rally in Onitsha on Wednesday, describing the development as a good omen for his governorship ambition.
Ngige, who was sighted at the Anambra State headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) where he went to monitor the arrival and distribution of materials for the governorship election, told reporters that arrangements were already on to adopt the baby.
Mother of the baby who was among thousands of people that attended the rally went into labour midway into the ceremony and she was delivered of the baby boy before a vehicle was brought to convey her to the hospital.
“I am serious about adopting the baby. It is a good omen. I am already in touch with the family and I don’t think they will object to our desire. We are happy that it happened this way because some people went for a rally and people died, but in my own case, a baby was born, not in a hospital, but on the rally ground,†he said.
Ngige said that in as much he has confidence in the ability of INEC to conduct free and fair election, there are certain anomalies which the commission must correct before the polls proper.
