Even as the country’s national football team is struggling at the on-going Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, there are subtle moves by the Abdullahi Sani Lulu-led board to seek re-election in the forthcoming NFF election billed for August.
Sports Vanguard has gathered on good authority that intensive campaign is going on at the hotel housing NFF top brass in Angola as the board ensured all willing state FA chairmen were taken to Angola for the Nations Cup. Their sponsorship to Angola is a Greek Gift.
We further learnt that due to the level of poverty in the land, most state FA chairmen could not resist the favour of going to Angola and the accompanying estacode dangled by the Lulu board .
Our usually reliable source at the Nigerian camp in Angola hinted that the bloated contingent was responsible for the high amount the NFF was reportedly spending each day in Angola
“The NFF spends so much daily and this will continue for as long as the Nigerian team stays in the competition,†our source said..
“The minister is aware of this and that has made him very angry although he is yet to say anything to that effect.â€
It was also understood that the politics of second term for Lulu and his board members began just before their relocation to Angola.
Prior to their departure, the board held an extra-ordinary congress which was to see to the amendment of certain portions of the NFA statutes.
“The meeting did not last for more that thirty minutes as state delegates were used as rubber stamps for decisions already taken before the meeting.
“Only a few of them attempted to resist but they were just too few to make any meaningful impact to the overall decisions,†our source said, commending the Sokoto FA chairman who opposed the amendments.
