LG boss assures on equity

OWERRI—The Chairman of Okigwe Local Government Transition Committee, Chief Emeka Okoronkwo, has said that his administration is determined to pursue policies of fair play and even development of the council.
Okoronkwo, who made the promise while inspecting some of the projects currently being executed by the local council, said that the Council had completed the renovation of one dilapidated classroom block at Aro-Ogii Primary School and another at Umuonia Ezinachi Primary School.
He said his administration attached great importance to the development of education in the area, adding that he would gear up to provide good reading environment for students and pupils in the area.
The Chairman recalled that before schools went on Christmas and New Year vacation, he set up a committee charged with the responsibility of apprehending children of school age, who hawk or loiter about during school hours.
“This action has increased school enrolment in the locality by about 30 percent since the current academic year began,†Okoronkwo said.
Continuing, the Chairman said that the development of the area would be pursued with vigour, promising that his administration would ensure the completion of all abandoned projects in the council.
