OWERRI—Oil producing communities in Imo State have been reassured that their socio-economic fortunes will change for the better, following President Umaru Yar’Adua’s new deal for host communities of oil companies.
The Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Goodluck Opiah, made the pledge while delivering the Sixth Alinso Lecture, organised by Egbema Forum at Abacheke Primary School, Egbema.
“The proposed granting of 10 percent equity share of oil companies to host communities is a positive investment opportunity for people in oil producing communities,†Opiah said.
Reiterating that the government and other stakeholders were poised to ensure that the state was not left out in the post amnesty benefits, the Speaker also appealed to Egbema people to brace up for the challenges ahead.
