Imo laments high cost of fighting crime

By  Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—Imo State Government says it has spent huge sums of money in its current battle against crime and criminals in the state, especially kidnapping.

The Security Adviser to Imo State Governor, Mr. George Eguh, who disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Owerri, however, appealed to the security agencies to critically probe a recent kidnap allegation against Governor Ikedi Ohakim by the governorship candidate of All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Chief Ziggy Azike.

“If Governor Ohakim and his government are behind kidnapping in the state, would the security agencies not know? If they know and keep quiet, then they are collaborating with Governor Ohakim,” he argued.

According to Eguh, “if the security agencies do not know of government’s involvement in kidnapping, then it means that they are negligent or incompetent, but if none of the scenario is true, it is time to for them to invite Ziggy Azike to help them solve the riddle.”

Eguh said that a man who is criminally minded would not have empowered security agencies to fight kidnapping and other crime to a standstill.

“All the security agencies in Imo State are witnesses to the huge sums of money spent by the state government to curb crime in the state, especially kidnapping,” Eguh said.
