UGHELLI— CHIEF (Mrs), Theresa Otidi, wife of the vice chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area in Delta state who was kidnapped on Thursday by about 10 gunmen at the outskirts of Umolo-Olomu community but courageously escaped from their den in the night, yesterday,  narrated how she beat the kidnappers to their game.
Chief Otidi who suffered a broken leg from her captors who tortured her said she was returning from Kiagbodo market with a lady named Rita in her car Toyota Carina II car when a red Volkswagen Jetta vehicle that parked at the outskirt of the community suddenly reversed and rammed into the side of her car, denting the bonnet, as she slowed down at a speed breaker.
Before she could utter a word, about 10 fierce-looking boys armed with guns of various assortments seized and blindfolded her and sped away with her in their vehicle.
According to her, “After driving for a very long time, the vehicle stopped and they walked along a bush path before they bundled me into a boat with which they crossed a river and continued another long journey on footâ€.
Mrs. Otidi said that after a long trek, the kidnappers stopped and delegated two of them to remain behind to guard her while the rest disappeared into the bush, apparently to make arrangements for another boat that would ferry them to Ogoda.
According to a family associate, Dr .S.O. Omorovwon, “I was going to Oviri-Olomu at about 6.00pm and as I got to Umolo, I noticed a crowd of people, I parked and inquired, then I was told that my friends’ wife was just kidnapped, that they left through the Oviri exit road, I immediately called Afide Idisi (PDP ward youth leader) at Oviri and told him of the incidence. He informed me that the vehicle just passed at a breathtaking speed, closely followed by a motor bike heading towards Ewu .
Omorovwon said Afide called Ewu youths who also confirmed that the vehicle had passed towards Orere and they immediately mobilized as he and Afide with other boys followed.
“We called JTF’s Major Babayo and he sent some of his boys to Oviri but I told them that we are going to Ewu, so we left. At Ewu, I met Babayo already there with other members of the JTF, we drove to the waterside and by then , the Ewu youths have apprehended two of the kidnappers|”.
One a notorious criminal named Edjotor who had served three separate jail terms and Udoji who has three wives;
“They were handed over to JTF, they confessed that the woman had been taken to Uto_Arhavwarien by the others who had earlier parked the car and dragged the woman into the bush, this was about 7.00 pm.
Major Babayo and his men went on to cross to Orere while we waited with the two arrested kidnappers in the care of Two JTF menâ€, he said.
