DAMATURU — Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has assured that there will be effective planning and moni-toring of the state budgetary provision this year as poor planning has always contributed negatively to the economic woes of the state in the past.
Gaidam, while presenting the 2010 Budget on the floor of the Yobe State House of Assembly said, “in order to achieve our objectives we will follow planned programmes of the government whereby subsequent approval for the release of funds will continue to be based on the budgetary provisions.â€
He said, “henceforth, this administration will focus on redirecting public sector spending to conform with due process principles that will instill fiscal transparency, and strict compliance with procedures. Our objective is to ensure that budget, and public spending in general, were appropriately geared towards realisation of set targets.â€
Governor Gaidam said to achieve all these the State Ministry of Finance “should henceforth, emphasise on collection of more revenue, rather than concentrating on disbursement.â€
He observed that “in view of the observed inadequa-cies, the State Government will from this month take more aggressive measures towards the generation of internal revenue.
