ADO-EKITI—The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, has threatened to revoke the N500 million worth of road contracts being executed by some construction companies in different parts of the state because of alleged poor performance and not working to specification.
Disclosing this to newsmen yesterday, the Head of Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, in Ekiti State, Engineer Ijie Daniel, said the action became imperative in view of the deplorable state of the roads.
The FERMA boss expressed disgust over the manner some of the contractors in the sites are handling the road projects.
The three major roads, according to him, included Ore-Akure-Ifaki-Omu-Aran road, being handled by Rosco Nigeria Ltd, Ado-Igede-Aramoko and Itawure road, handled by Dekit Construction Company, and the Ijan-Ilumoba-Aisegba road awarded to Hartlor Nigeria Ltd.
Out of the three contractors, only Rosco construction company, according to Daniel, seems to be working to specification, while the two others, Dekit and Hartlor were behind schedule.
Daniel further disclosed that the agency’s headquarters in Abuja had written several warning letters to the contractors, aside the monitoring teams that visit the sites regularly, noting that some of the contractors kept complaining of lack of funds.
