Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), have admitted that the present crop of Green Eagles featuring at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations are not the desired team that Nigerians deserve.
After being battered 3_1 by Egypt in their first match, the Eagles were lucky to escape with a slim 1_0 win against minnows Benin Republic , in a match that got Nigerians on the edges of their seats throughout the 90 minutes.
The Eagles were so pathetic in their display that it took the intervention of the wood work on two occasions for them to escape goals from their little west African neighbors, who surprisingly were more confident in passing the ball and holding on to it as well.
So bad was the Eagles display that they had to be on the defensive for the better period of the second half.
They were helped by the fact that they scored a penalty but their lack of shots on targets got so many worried at the end of the match.
Speaking in a telephone interview, the Chief Media Officer of the NFF, Ademola Olajire, while expressing relief with the result, said that the Eagles were not yet the finished product that can captivate the imagination of the nation and the world by extension.
“It was important that we won the match to boost our chances of qualifying and lift us from the defeat against Egypt but the performance is not what we expect from a finished team.
“They are not yet the finished product because this is a tough tournament and we expect a stronger performance from them in their next match, as a win would ensure they qualify for the quarterfinal, which would also boost their confidence. We still need more from themâ€, added Olajire
