Army procures 6 buses to ease soldiers’ movement

LAGOS — In an apparent move to address the frequent cases of clashes between military men and civilians  particularly motor park touts popularly known as agbero, the Nigerian Army has commissioned six vehicles that would convey officers and soldiers to and from duty.

The 45-seater luxury buses would be distributed to Army formations in Lagos, Kaduna and Abuja.

Island, Lagos,  Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau, explained that the idea behind the provision was, among other things , to ease troops movement, adding that it was part of his administration’s support to transportation aspect, as contained in the seven-point agenda.

He said the buses would also support mass transportation effort of government in  states where they would operate.

Noting that the commissioning of the six buses was the first phase, he said plan was underway to procure additional 10 buses for places  like Enugu, Benin and Jos where soldiers also encounter transportation problem.
He cautioned, however, that the buses be maintained, informing that military policemen would be attached to each of the drivers to checkmate their excesses.
