AWKA—ANAMBRA State Government is to erect a befiting secretariat for members of the Nigerian Legion in the state, the Governor, Mr. Peter Obi has said.
Speaking at the launching of the Emblem Appeal Week of the Armed Forces in Awka, Governor Obi charged Nigerians to appreciate the enormous sacrifices made by the ex-service men to maintain peace, unity and stability in the country and the world at large.
According to him, such sacrifices included loss of lives, injuries sustained and psychological trauma suffered by them and their families, which he regretted had not been properly appreciated in the country.
He recalled that his administration has since its inception considerably supported the State’s Legion, both financially and morally within available resources and will continue to improve their welfare.
The Governor assured that government would not only consider their request for a parcel of land for the state secretariat but would also be part of the secretariat project, while urging Nigerians to emulate members of the legion by serving the country faithfully with a sense of patriotism.
He was satisfied that through multi-sectoral strategy, his administration had reversed development setbacks suffered by the state for decades and stimulated sustainable development in all sectors of the state.
