Ilorin â€” Four Police officers are in the net of Kwara State Police CommandÂ for allegedly killing an eight-month-old baby and his mother at a check point in Ilorin.
The officers, who were on patrol along Yidi road in Ilorin, Sunday last week,Â allegedly killed the victims Mrs. Titilayo Olatunde and her baby inside a taxi they boarded at about 6.30pm.
The victims were allegedly shot by the policemen when the taxiÂ which they boarded allegedly failed to stop for search.
Informed sources confided in VanguardÂ that the victims were among the six passen-gers that boarded the taxi with number plate XB 384PTG.
An eyewitness, who alerted the Police authority after the incident, said six passengers were in the taxi but only the baby, his mother and the driver were hit by the police bullets.
The mother was said to have died instantly while the baby later died at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH.
The driver of the taxi, simply identified as Isiaka Rasaki, was still receiving treatment at UITH as at the time of filing this report.
Kwara State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Dabo Ezekiel who confirmed the incident, said all four officers on patrol that day had been arrested and would be dealt with accordingly if they were found guilty.
