LAGOS — A group, Arewa for Nigeria Unity, AFNU, has advised Nigerians to be cautious in their utterances regarding the state of the health of President Umaru Yar’Adua who is currently receiving medical treatment in Saudi Arabia.
Co-ordinator of the group, Alhaji Sanni Abubakar, who gave the advice in Lagos noted with dismay that many Nigerians were fast turning the President’s sickness into a political and ethnic issue.
While saying that it was sad that some Nigerians are busy discussing the issue of who should succeed Yar’Adua or become the Acting President, Abubakar stated that Nigerians all over the country ought to be praying for the president’s recuperation instead of making political calculation when Yar’Adua is still alive.
“What has been happening in the last few weeks in this country is sad. It is opportunistic, rather than all of us coming together to pray for the ailing president who is still alive, some people are busy discussing the issue of who steps into his shoes. This is an act of callousness.
“Life belongs to Allah and death will come whenever it will come. But for some Nigerians to be discussing Yar’Adua’s successor when the man is still on hospital bed is a wicked and callous act.
It is even more disappointing that some of the people involved in this despicable act are prominent Nigerians who some people look up to as role model in the society,†he said.
