ABUJAâ€”The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and the Nigeria Police have put in place measures to enforce the laws on public officers and uniform men who will violate road traffic rules and regulations during this festive period.
They have also assured travellers during Christmas and New Year of tight security and safety as they have directed their men to remain in the beat assigned to them for 24 hours to ensure security to lives and property on the roads.
Disclosing the measures yesterday at a joint press conference on the menace of convoy drivers, the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive, Osita Chidoka regretted that the menace of convoy drivers have become a source of concern to the authorities.
According to him, they cause road obstructions, traffic hold ups and lane indiscipline has remained most challenging to the commissionâ€™s operations during this festive period.
He further lamented that the activities of convoy drivers have caused untold hardships to the motoring public, informed that the commission and the police have set up monitoring teams to carefully evaluate the driving behaviour of convoy driver, adding that whoever is found to have contravened any of the traffic rules and regulations would be tried in accordance with the service rules and meted with appropriate punishment.
