Information and   Communication Minister, Prof. Dora Akunyili, and the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oceanic Bank International Plc, Mr. John Aboh, were among notable Nigerians that were honoured with lifetime achievement awards by the University of Nigeria (UNN) Alumni Association, weekend in Abuja.
Commending the recipients for being worthy ambassadors of UNN, out-going president of the Alumni Association, Nze Ananyi, said Prof. Akunyili was being recognized for her commitment to ridding Nigeria of counterfeit drugs and ensuring that the nation’s image is repositioned to enhance economic development and prosperity.
Ananyi said the Association endorsed the award for Aboh, Oceanic Bank’s CEO, on account of his outstanding contributions to the banking sector and the Nigerian economy at large over two decades.
He described Aboh, an alumnus of UNN, as a turn-around expert in the banking industry, pointing out that his expertise and professionalism have helped put him above board in the sector.
According to him, Aboh’s commitment to hard work, dedication to ethics and technical competence in the industry are attributes that young bankers should emulate in order to advance their careers in the highly competitive banking sector of the Nigerian economy.
He said: “When Wema Bank had a problem, Mr. Aboh was called to rescue it from collapsing and he did just that. When Oceanic Bank had its own problem a few months ago, he was called in to fix the problems and return the bank to stability. “
