Yenagoa — Bayelsa State governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, says people of the state and Nigerians, generally, should see this year’s Christmas as a time to intensify prayers for the quick recovery of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Sylva praised Bayelsans for their commitment to peace in the Niger Delta and urged them to use the season to seek ways of consolida-ting the gains of the amnesty programme in the state.
In his Christmas message, the governor described peace and progress as mutually reinforcing features of civilisation, saying the people should continue on the path of peace as it was the bedrock of development in any society.
“President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who is recuperating in a Saudi hospital, needs our prayers at this time. This year’s Christmas should be a time of sober reflection for us in Bayelsa State, and indeed, Nigeria, as we intensify prayers and seek the face of God for the quick recovery of our president and for the consolidation of peace in our land,†Sylva said.
The message was contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Doifie Ola.
