ENUGU—The lawmaker representing EnuguNorth/South federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Prince Ofor Chukwuegbo has launched an economic empowerment for his constituency.
The event, which also featured the presentation of varous prizes ranging from motorcycles, sewing machines, hair dryers, grinding machines, barbing kits and generating sets took place at the Newheaven Primary School, Enugu.
Co-ordinator of the programme, Mr. Chambers Mbachu, noted that Prince Chukwuegbo conceived the programm as a way “to give back to the society and ensure the well being of his people as a way of sustaining our nascent democracy.â€
Ofor he said is of the school of thought, that if an enabling environment is created for the people, particularly the youths, violence and other forms of social vices would be reduced to the barest minimum.
Speaking further, the lawmaker noted that the economic empowerment was to create self employment and encourage youths with skills and vocation to form cooperative societies for easy access to soft loans, so that they can stand on their own and become employers of labour.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr Martin Ilo, who represented the State Governor, Mr Sullivan Chime, thanked the lawmaker for giving back to the society, noting that this will go a long way to promote peace, unity and give the people a sense of belonging.
