ABUJA—Matching with placards boldly written “Idoko where is the meaningful involvement, Stop the deceptionâ€, “Idoko don’t sabotage govt. effortsâ€, “Professor Idoko, Anti-NEPLWAâ€, etc, with a wooden casket covered with white cloth and flowers on top with boldly inscription “Prof. John Idoko R.I.P†hundreds of people living with HIV/AIDS stormed Abuja where the celebration was taking place.
The activities to mark the World AIDS Day was already going on yesterday in Abuja with dignitaries, including; Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, Chairman, House Committee on HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria, Dr. Oluwole Olakunde, NACA DG, Rep. of US Ambassador to Nigeria, Robin Sanders, Rep. of British High Commissioner to Nigeria Ambassador Scott Dewar, WHO Rep, Dr. Peter Eriki, Rep. of Minister of Health Professor Babatunde Osotimehin, etc, when the noise outside the hall disrupted the event.
The whole place was heated up with songs, “we no go gree ooh, we no go gree†by people living with HIV/AIDS.
Speaking to newsmen, Regina Asumpta, who claimed to be representing Association of International Women living with HIV/AIDS, said their major concern is non-involvement of people living with HIV/AIDS in all the activities slated for the celebration.
