BENIN CITY—THE immediate past Chief of Staff to Edo State government, Mr Isaiah Osifo, has appealed to Governor Adams Oshiomhole to approach the proposed dualization of  Airport road in Benin with caution.
According to him, this is not to further impoverish persons who would be affected by the demolition of illegal structures in the area.
In a letter addressed to the Governor, Osifo pointed out that though the demolition exercise of the state government was commendable, arrangement must be made to compensate those whose houses would be destroyed in the process.
“It is on this understanding I respectfully advise strongly that if your government has no financial capacity to immediately compensate owners of the houses that will be affected, including relocating the owners of economic ventures popularly referred to as illegal structures, it will be more useful to majority of the conscientious people of Edo State to maintain the existing two lanes and save the people avoidable pains,†it stated.
“With an increasing revenue profile of the state, government can then move to relocate those currently occupying illegal structures and pursue beautification,†he said.
