BENIN—GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and Bini Political Coalition (BPC), a socio-cultural organization in the state, have urged the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Professor Osayuki Oshodin, to remain focused in piloting the affairs of the institution in the next five years.
In a congratulatory message to the new vice-chancellor, Governor Oshiomhole expressed optimism that with his eminent profile, the university would be in capable, mature and firm hands, adding that the university at this moment required a team player who could connect to the wider aspirations of its host state.
According to him, “your appointment is well merited, judging by your sterling, scholarly accomplishments and distinguished performance on various faculty and university bodies.
“As governor of the host state, I wish to assure you of my full support for your efforts to reposition the university in order to serve its catchment areas and the nation as a whole.â€
On its part, the BPC, led by former Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Rowland Owie, said “ we thank God for making it possible for a VC of Bini extraction to be appointed to UNIBEN.”
“We commend the Chairman and members of the Governing Council who were patriotic enough to do the right thing.
“It is our believe that Professor Oshodin has the reach to carry the entire university community along for the peace, progress and development of the university.â€
He further appreciated what he described as the stabilizing roles played by the Chancellor of the University, His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, and the alumnus of the university who constantly stood for the truth.
“We congratulate our Royal Majesty, the Oba of Benin for the emergence of a Bini vice-chancellor during his reign,†he said.
