The elections into the boards of NFF and NPL billed for next year, are already generating heat among the aspirants. In the South-South zone, candidates have kicked off a media campaign with the intension of improving their prospect for a place on the board. Â
Chairman of Akwa Ibom FA and coordinator of the South-South zone Mr Johnson Effiom said the South-South zone will present credible candidates when they meet to decide who gets what position. He also added that the zone has not picked anybody, stressing that they intend to meet and deliberate on the election.
“It is not true that we in the zone have adopted anyone. Nobody has the right to decide who takes any position. I am the spokesman of the zone and not until we meet, nobody has the right to claim any position.
We were supposed to meet this week but Chief Obaseki traveled out of the country, so we shifted it till when everyone will be present and we will share positions to our candidates for various seats in NFF and NPL. The zone has the final say and I will speak on behalf of the zone.
Timi Ebikagboro denied reports that his boss Amaju Pinnick said the zone has picked Obaseki. According to him, Amaju only lauded the NPL boss for his achievements as chairman, adding that the league has improved since he took over the leadership of the league body.
“Amaju as an individual does not have the right to pick anybody for the zone. What he said was that Obaseki has done well and commended him. He stated that now teams win away matches unlike in the past,”
Ebikagboro said, adding that the zone will be meeting to discuss the election. “We have a structure on ground and we are going by the planâ€, he added.
