The Lagos Sub-Seat is taking the lead again as it is set to hand out certificates of participation to over 400 volunteers who served during the recently concluded FIFA Under-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009.
According to Amanze Uchegbulam, the Sub-Seat Chairman and Venue General Manager, the exercise which will hold from 12:00 noon at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Saturday, December 19, 2009,cannot be delayed further because it is the traditional appreciation of the World football governing body, FIFA, to those who sacrificed time and energy to provide excellent support albeit vital services that ensured the success of the 3-week championship.
It will be recalled that the Sub-Seat, with the active support of the Lagos State Government, had to hire additional 154 volunteers in order to meet the peculiar needs of Lagos during the championship.
The over 400 men and women served meritoriously in such areas as protocol, ceremonies, media, transport, accreditation, youth department, security, marketing, medical, ICT, ticketing and stewarding.
The Lagos Sub-Seat which was the first to pay the entitlements of its volunteers and staff barely one week after the World Cadet Competition was concluded was also quick to make public its expenditure accounts and returns to the central LOC.
