Jigawa to sponsor 100 gifted students on overseas courses

DUTSE — THE Jigawa State government will sponsored 100 best indigenous students who passed their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations for further studies in various courses overseas, Governor Sule Lamido has said.
Speaking at the Government House Conference Hall while addressing the second batch of 37 students who will depart to Informatics Academy of Singapore to study their B.Sc degree in Information Communication Technology (ICT), Governor Sule Lamido said the gesture was part of the present government’s commitment towards boosting education and encouraging other natives to do well in their academic performances.
The governor explained that the 100 indigenous students who passed the two examinations will study engineering and medicine both in Canada and the United Kingdom, adding that next year, the state will be a laboratory for producing young generation for future reference.
He charged the benefiting students to be good ambassadors while at Singahore by protecting the intergrity of Jigawa and the nation at large, pointed out that government will not hesitate to bring back home any student who misbehaves or shows unseriousness in his study.
In his opening remarks, Executive Secretary, Jigawa State Scholarship Board, Alhaji Babangida Hussaini said the departing students were screened and verified as Jigawa natives from the 27 local government areas of the state and have the required qualifications to study at the Informatics Academy of Singapore.
