IJAW Youths Council (IYC), yesterday, advised self-seeking politicians not to politicise the medical condition of President Umaru Yar’Adua, saying it will not augur well for the country.
The IYC in a press statement by its national president, Dr. Chris Ekiyor said such politicians have put their personal interest above the national interest by fanning embers of conflict.
He however, said the youths would not fall to the antics, hence, “ Youths of Ijaw extraction gathered, weekend, at Patani local governmnet area of Delta state to pray for the quick recovery of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeriaâ€.
His words, “As Ijaw, we pray for our President to recover soonest and return home to Nigeria to continue with his programme for the country, including addressing the vexatious issue of our Niger-Delta region that no other President had the courage to address.
“As Nigerians, we would continue to pray for our president and the unity of countryâ€, he added.
On the purported pressure on the Vice President to resign, he said,â€I think it’s unfounded and nothing to worry about, as we are operating a constitutional system that allow for the rule of law. Nigerians should be more concerned with the health and quick recovery of Mr President.
We also encourage the vice president to be up and doing in support of his boss as has he has always doneâ€.
Dr Ekiyor , nevertheless, said, “We are not unaware of the antic of detractors who want to drag Mr. Vice President into a public debate, we will continue to give unflincthing support for him to continue to carry out his constitutional functionand no amount of blackmail will subdue our spirit of solidarity with him and by extension, Mr Presidentâ€.
