Telecommunications giant, Globacom has appointed marketing communications specialist, Okon Iyanam who recently returned to the company as Head, Special Projects in the Communications Department.
A very reliable source close to the telecommunications giant confirmed that Iyanam did not return to Globacom as Executive Director, Marketing Communications as speculated but rather as Head of Special Projects.
“There was no iota of truth in the speculation that he came back as an Executive Director in Marketing Communications just as there was no strand of fact in the rumour that he was once the Director or General Manager, Dealer Sales in Globacom. Rather, he is the Head of Special Projects. He will basically be responsible for coordinating the implementation of Globacom’s events, promotions and sponsored assetsâ€, said the source.
An authoritative source said Iyanam reports to Globacom’s Regional Director, Marketing Communications, Mr. Charles Jenarius, an international communications expert who has the company’s Board and management’s mandate to supervise all the marketing communications activities of the national telecommunications operator for West Africa.
As Head, Special Projects in the Communications Department, Iyanam will monitor the implementation of Globacom’s projects like the CAF Awards, the sponsorship of the Premier League and national teams, the Glo Lagos
International Half Marathon and any other major events and promotions of the telecommunications giant as assigned by Jenarius.
A pioneer staff of Globacom Limited, Iyanam has been re-absorbed in Globacom each time he had the opportunity to return. A source attributed this to the large heart of the owners of the company.
In addition to the events, promotions and sponsored assets units, the Globacom Communications Department has various other units including creative studio, media buying, advertising, public relations, outdoor and channel branding, with all the unit heads reporting to Jenarius.
Globacom which is reputed for its strong brand equity, has the vision to build the biggest and best telecommunications network in Africa. Globacom is also rated as Nigeria’s most innovative telecommunication
company because of the numerous products and services it pioneered which not only reduced call tariff and stimulated the telecom revolution in the country but which also enabled Nigerians to enjoy the latest technology in telecoms such as 3G and Blackberry.
