BENIN-based pro-democracy group, The Rainbow Caucus, has sent a message to Edo State House of Assembly to commence impeachment process against Governor Adams Oshiomhole, as a result of his continuous violation of the Constitution, to stop him from plunging the state into a theatre of war.
Speaking in Lagos on his on-going sensitisation of prominent Edo citizens in the country, President of the group, Mr. Okharedia Ihimekpen, said the group decided to take this option as a last resort to save the state from total collapse.
Ihimekpen emphasised that the latest of Oshiomhole’s destabilisa-tion tendencies was his recent alleged threat ro purchase machine guns for future elections in Edo State.
According to Ihimekpen, other cases of Oshiomhole’s current violation of the Constitution are the alleged illegal deduction of over N111 million from the Local Government Council accoun-ts and withholding of local government allocation of the excess crude funds.
On his sensitisation tour, Ihimekpen said it was only good that Edo elites at home and in the Diaspora knew that “they could not afford to be indifferent over the regressive developments and paradox of enduring poverty in a potentially endowed state that used to be number one in developmental strides in the country.
Ihimekpen warned that there will be no amount of machine guns that will deter Edo people from voting for persons of their choice come 2011 and 2012 and that if Oshiomhole dares to carry out his threat, he will equally be matched with the determined spirit of the widows, unemployed youths, men and women who his harsh policies has rendered liabilities instead of assets to their society.
The group also hailed the consistency of the opposition parties in the state especially the PDP in their always rising to the challenges in times like this, but called on the PDP State Chairman Chief Dan Orbih to set up a shadow cabinet in Edo State.
