A Nigerian, Dr. Olumuyiwa Aliu, is now the first vice president on the council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada.
This appointment makes him the second in command only to the overall head of the ICAO council.
Until his appointment about three weeks ago, Dr. Aliu was Nigeria’s representative on the ICAO council, a position he had occupied since 1 January 2005.
Reacting to the appointment, Aviation Minister, Mr. Babatunde Omotoba, described it as a measure of the confidence the international community now has in Nigeria, following the series of reforms in the aviation sector.
