BENIN — THE Vice-Chairman of Etsako Central Local Government Council of Edo State, Chief Jacobson Nasamu, has debunked allegation that he led thugs to take over the council following the defection of his boss, Mr Joseph Ugheoke, to Action Congress, AC.
Nasamu, who also was a former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ, in Edo State, raised alarm over alleged plans by AC in the council to unleash mayhem on him and the eight PDP councillors who allegedly refused to defect to AC.
He insisted that he never stormed the council with thugs, saying, “it was the chairman and his cohorts that have been intimidating my people.
“They want to get the eight councillors loyal to me by all means and that is why the councillor of Ward II, Peter Agbabi, was attacked.
“I have not been able to go to the office for some time now because each time I dressed up to go to the office, I will receive security report not to go, that thugs have taken over the council.
“Every day, the chairman imports thugs to take over the council and when any of us tried to go there, we will be attacked.
“How can this be happening in a democracy? We have petitioned the police on several occasions to stop this madness, but it has persisted and nobody wants to do any thing about it. My people are being intimidated daily, yet they lie against us every day,†Nasamu said.
Chief Nasamu added that “I have told the AC leaders on several occasions that you do not force people to join your party.
“I told them to let us be, that anybody who wants to decamp will do that on his own volition. You do not force people to belong in an association.
“All they do now is to harass and intimidate people every day and our lives are being endangered.â€
