ABUJA — Shaibu Amodu, Eagles’ Chief Coach, has declared that he has no target for next month’s African Cup of Nations in Angola just as he insisted that there was no coach currently in the country that is as good as him.
While responding to questions yesterday at the Nigeria Football Federation secretariat, Amodu said he has no target for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations in Angola.
“Yes, I have no target for Angola; if our capability can take us to the final all well and good. The fact remains that I cannot say to anyone that this is my target for the African Cup of Nations in Angolaâ€, Shaibu Amodu said.
He was however serious when he said that there was no coach currently in the country that is as good as him.
“I stand bold to say it that there is no coach currently in this country that is as good as I am. My records are there, and they speak volume about my performanceâ€, he said.
Amodu also fired a below the belt shot at the Nigeria Football Federation as he insisted that no one among the home-based players allegedly imposed on him can make the team to next month’s African Cup of Nations in Angola.
In a swift remark he likenedthe players to guinea pigs that are only good for experiment.
“By the time we resume camp for the African Cup of Nations, it would be barely less than eight days to go. It’s practically impossible to re-mould these home-based players to fit into the squad for the challenges of the tournament we are going into.
“Definitely, they would be good for one thing – practice, and not for the tournamentâ€, he said as he stated that he would be expecting the foreign-based pros in camp from January 2.
He, however, expressed that he has had fruitful talks with the players during his recent visit to England.
