AWKA—CHAIRMAN of Onitsha Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers Union (OPPMDU), Mr. Emeka Ezeanyika, has said that drug dealers in the town have concluded arrangments to organise a seminar/exhibition in partnership with drug manufacturing companies and other stakeholders to ensure that an average Nigerian was able to identify fake drugs with less assistance.
Speaking in Onitsha at the weekend, Ezeanyika enjoined drug manufacturers both within and outside the country to join his association in the battle against fake, adulterated and unwholesome drugs by putting proper identification devices that could help to differentiate their products from the fake ones.
“Drug manufacturing companies should not place priority on profit as overall organisational goal, but should emphasize on protecting their products from being faked or pirated by instilling a special security seal for all their company’s product,†he advised.
He said although it was a fact that having such security seal may be capital intensive, it would go a long way in achieving results for the companies which, he observed, have suffered great losses in the hands of fakers.
