The Eket 132/33KV Transmission Station at Eket in Akwa Ibom State has been energized to Ibom Power Plant, adding 37MW to the grid as a result of the completion of Ibom Power Station by the Akwa Ibom State Government.Â Eket and its environ now enjoy uninterrupted power supply. This milestone achievement was on Monday December 14, 2009.

Similarly the Uyo transmission station, in the same state, is expected to be energized in two weeks time with additional 140MW to the grid, thereby increasing available generation to about 5,540MW.
Eket Transmission Station has therefore joined the roll call of Independent Power Plants (IPPâ€™s) contributing to the 6000MW.Â Others are: Okpai, AES and Afam VI.
The Minister of Power, Dr. Lanre Babalola during his visit to Ibom Power Station, described the event as historic, and a milestone achievement in the bid to substantially improve power supply to Nigerians.Â He commended the State Government for completing the Ibom Power Station.
In the same vein the Secretary to State Government, Obong Umana Okon Umana commended Dr. Lanre Babalola for his role and for his visionary and dynamic leadership of the power sector.
