By Samuel OYADONGHA
Eleven suspects, among them eight ex-militants, have been arrested by the police in Bayelsa State over alleged extortion and other criminal acts.

The ex-militants were alleged to have blocked the road in the Kpansia suburb of Yenagoa, the state capital and terrorised residents.

The command image maker, Nkoko Thaddeus, (DSP), said the action of the suspects disrupted the free flow of traffic in the area.

He also disclosed that some residents of the area were dehumanized while others were made to part with their personal belongings.

At press time, the suspects, according to the PPRO, were on their way to the magistrate court for the law to take its course.

In a related development, three persons were arrested for attempting to defraud the Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), AVM Larry Koinyan (rtd). The police reportedly swooped on the suspects around Odi in the Kolokuma-Opokuma local government area of the state.

A police source said the suspects attempted to defraud the chairman of the NDDC by sending a threat text message, asking him to drop a substantial sum of money at a particular location.

AVM Koinyan, it was reliably learnt, was asked to play along with the suspects which eventually resulted in their arrest.

Investigation on the matter, it was reliably learnt, is ongoing and the suspects will be arraigned in the court.
