AWKA—THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has released copies of the voters’ register to be used for the February 6, 2010 governorship election in Anambra State to the political parties fielding candidates.
This is in line with the promise given by the chairman of the Commission, Prof. Maurice Iwu, during the stakeholders meeting with governorship candidates and parties’ officials in Awka last week.
The issue of the voters register to be used for the election has been a subject of controversy as some of the political parties have been accusing INEC of having a hidden agenda by not making available the register to the parties to verify its authenticity.
Chairman of Soludo Campaign Organisation, Chief Okey Muo-Aroh, confirmed to reporters in Awka weekend that his organisation has received both hard and soft copies of the register as promised by Iwu during his visit to Anambra State last week.
During his interaction with the politicians, Iwu had emphasised on INEC’s zero-tolerance to any malpractice during the forthcoming governorship election in the state, adding that there is need to get the Anambra election right to enable the commission win the confidence of Nigerians.
