Adamu turns 57, today

All roads lead to the residence of FIFA and CAF Executive Committee member, Nigeria’s Dr. Amos Adamu, as he turns 57 today. For over a decade now, the name Adamu has become synonymous with sports in the country.

Until recently, Dr. Adamu was the Director-General of the National Sports Commission. Before then, he was the Director-General in the Ministry of Sports and Social Development where he performed what many think is unrivalled in the annals of Nigerian sports.

He was once the sole administrator of then Nigeria Football Association.  Adamu was chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the 2003 All Africa Games, COJA.

Nigeria hosted and won the Games held in Abuja.

Adamu is also the President of the West Africa Football Union, WAFU. Through his effort, the once moribund regional body is beginning to breathe a new lease of life as the Adamu-led executive has been able to resuscitate the WAFU Inter-club championship, the Eyadema Cup, which was recently concluded in Lome, the Togolese capital. WAFU have also organised the U-20 tournament for boys.

Adamu has used his membership of both continental and global sporting bodies to attract goodwill to the country.
“God has been so gracious, merciful and wonderful to me and my family. May his name be praised”, Adamu said yesterday.
