German coach, Joachim Lowe, is gathering information on Ghana’s Michael Essien with a view of locking out the combative midfielder when they clash at the South Africa 2010 World Cup.
Germany, Ghana Serbia and Australia are in group D and Lowe has identified the Black Stars as potential threats in the group with Essien calling the shots.
“Michael Essien is the man Germany has to stop if they are to take maximum points off Ghana,†said Lowe.
He added that Essien’s teammate at Chelsea, Michael Ballack will provide useful information on how Germany can stop Essien and Ghana in this their first competitive match meeting at senior level.
“I will have to ring Michael Ballack to get some inside info on Essien. The Ghanaians played well at the 2006 World Cup and have improved over the past few years.
“Ghana are going to be very difficult to play against due to their physical strength and in Michael Essien they have a real superstar.
“It’s going to be difficult group, but I don’t think we need to fear any of the sides we are up against because we’ve got a very strong squad ourselves.â€
